secrete Man of Color By: Jane Ashley Raborn In the fun, A Free Man of Color, the main character, Jacques trump card, is pictured as a deceitful ladies bit until his position as a man of color begins to mean something entirely divergent in the pagan haven of New Orleans, LA. The actor who play Jacques Cornet was utterly brilliant, as shown by several choices he made in characterization. During the early act, Jacques was gaudy and, possibly, with borderline queer qualities, juxtaposed by his extreme womanizing adventures. He revels in his status as a man with wealth, power, and influence, all while be a deliver man of color. I good enjoyed watching the Jacques Cornet of the first act, merely for entertainment purposes. He was funny, his facial expressions and expression of life of moving added more waggery to the humorous plot, and his interactions with the other actors on stage were very successful. Obviously, the actor had no qualms about pickings risks to achi eve this ridiculous align of Jacques Cornet. However, by the second act, once a conflict of existent importance is developed, (the reinstatement of Le enactment Noir), Jacques changes. The subtle changes occur first: the respect for his slave, Murmur, and the care for his doctor. The flamboyant characteristics are still parade throughout, but the audience sees the prudence in the character. At this story in the play, I enjoyed observe this actor not honorable for entertainment, but the emotional expedition was riveting. Finally, in the final scenes of the play when Jacques status, even as a human being, is threatened, he exposes the afflictive vulnerability of his character. He is no longer flamboyant and funny. He is now weak and angry. His shackles replaced his scenic wardrobe and he cannot determine why things have changed. The path this was really portrayed was the way that the actor slowed his speech and move the pitch of his voice. He holler when necessary an d he shake the chains attached to him.
